Eric Evenstad • July 3, 2018

Becoming a recognized thought leader or expert in your industry or niche can have huge benefits for you and your business. As a thought leader, you'll get more website traffic, more social media followers and more email subscribers. It'll give you the opportunity to spread your message further, help more people and make more money.

So how do you become a recognized as a thought leader?

Well first, you have to be an expert at something... or at least more of an expert than the people that you are hoping to lead.

Then, you have to become dedicated to spreading your message and helping other people. There are many ways that you can do this, but in this video, I dive into my three favorite methods.

  1. Start a Blog, YouTube channel, or Podcast and start creating extremely high value content related to your area of expertise... and don't worry about giving away too much information for free. If you help people and consistently add value, they will become loyal followers and eventually loyal buyers.

BONUS TIP: You can do guest blog posts on industry websites/blogs in order to further spread your message and reach new people.

  2. Find and join Facebook groups and Linkedin groups related to your niche. There are thousands of these groups and you can almost certainly find several groups that are filled with your target market. Once you join the groups, you'll need to start engaging. By answering questions and commenting on posts, you'll quickly establish yourself as a go-to person. Again, the goal here is to help people with no expectation of reciprocation. If you do this, the community will start to see you as a thought leader, which lead to more followers, subscribers, and sales.

  3. Join Quora.com (a question/answer website) and search for your area of expertise. When you do this, you'll discover tons of message threads where somebody asks a question and others provide their best answers, insights and thoughts. The goal here is to jump into the conversations and answer as many questions related to your area of expertise as you can. You want to provide maximum value... and if it makes sense, you can link to a relevant blog post or video on your website that adds additional value. This will drive traffic to your website and help you establish yourself as a thought leader.

All of these three tips of simple and free, but they do take time. And in order to really pay off, you must commit to doing them consistently over time.

If you do that, you'll become recognized as the thought leader and expert that you really are.
